Today I cleaned, nope not my desk or my living headquarters but part of my digital life. Nope didn’t clean up photo’s that are unusable but email subscriptions and twitter things I followed. You know when you roll over and unplug your phone from the charger in the morning and check your mail and you delete 58 of 60 new emails. Yeah, Today I started the unsubscription of those emails. Most are auto adds because radio is full of bots that think you need a new voice person or check out our amazing news about radio or media or trash basically. I still have a lot of that to do but it will have to wait until 7:01 am when my alarm go off. So then I set my sights on twitter. I had been at 999 friends for about a month. I would delete someone if I wanted to follow someone new, I realized that it was a never ending battle and I really didn’t want to follow that, drunk actor or coked up basketball player or the weird Portland thing and even a relative or two. So I started the great unfollow of 2011. First it was 200 deletes and I felt pretty good about it. I have lists that you can’t see because they’re hidden of friends and photography stuff and music stuff so I don’t need to follow everyone. Hell I don’t need to follow everyone who follows me and I don’t. So I got home tonight, popped in a movie i could ignore and started clicking. I clicked on every single person I followed that I didn’t know and if they hadn’t posted in a week or two they got deleted or if I really don’t like their profile photo also deleted. I took me awhile to get through 750 people but I got that down 200 more to 551. It feels really good, I didn’t know how it would end up but, I know I won’t miss those people or the things they said in 140 character blocks. It’s the new spring cleaning, social media and digital… next stop, facebook…..
