Ice Cave

Ice Cave, originally uploaded by Squid Vicious.

When leaving our campground at the base of Mt Adams at Forlorn Lakes we came across a point of interest which was an Ice Cave. Two steps down towards the unknown and the temperature dropped 40 degrees. We moved along the icy floor not being able to tell if it was a skate rink or just patches. Moved into the cave and realized that my back up headlamp and my little flashlight were not enough. Moved in a little more and it was pitch black beyond anything I’d ever experienced. We hung out a little bit longer not really get out of visual of the entrance. We will be back maybe doing more along the MCclellan Trail but with more light.

GORILLAZ GORILLAZ GORILLAZ

click photo for more pictures

The Gorillaz are one of my favorites bands still around. They were tops on my bucketlist of bands I wanted to see because they don’t tour much and had never been to the NW. So when I heard they were coming close ie: Seattle, I had to go, MUST SEE. I bought my tickets as soon as they went on sale and thought floor seats would be a good idea not thinking it would be filled with seats. As I was walking into Key Arena last night I noticed row after row after row of seats. Looked down at my ticket and noticed row AA seat 10. My eyes got big and I knew what that ment. FRONT ROW! I had sat front row before and I have had floor tickets before and they are not the same. FRONT ROW means no little people standing in front of you screaming I LOVE YOU DAMON! I do feel bad because after I got done shooting my 3 songs with the photo pass I had to kick out a handicap girl from my seat. Not really, I didn’t kick her out, I stood behind her enjoying the show then a usher noticed something was up and kicked them to there seat 3 feet away. All things good for the Handicap girl if you ask, she got back up out of her wheelchair and stood next to me and was the only person to high 5 Damon Albarn so it had a happy ending, And you thought she would just be sitting there how the Bloodhound Gang put it “with handicap faces” No she was beyond happy and a tad crazy. Doesn’t beat the kid that was to my left who rocked out more then I had seen anyone rock out before at a concert. I’m thinking he was thinking just like I was, BEST SHOW EVER. One of the Gorillaz stage guys walked over to him and hand delivered drum sticks to him. Pretty dope for the kid, I didn’t think he could of got any happier.

Yes, it was the best I could of expected from the show, BUT it didn’t come without problems. The jerk face at Gate 4 at Key Arena had a power trip and said NO, your not on the list. He asked who my contact was I told him and he said no idea who that is, most people have the right contact name and that isn’t it, so get a hold of your contact and figure it out. SO, I DID. Got my friend Promo Joe who is amazing and my contact and we walked up to the guy and he say’s, Oh hey Joe, what’s up.. REALLY. Short story long, we got the photo pass figured out late of course and I missed getting shots of N*E*R*D*. After they played I ran back to my car a few miles away got my camera and ran back to the venue with 10 minutes to spare, I thought I was going to die.  But it would of been worth it because it was GORILLAZ

Get up already

Peaceful RestI haven’t done a lot of middle of the night star and cool landmark photography. I live in the downtown of a city and we might see 200 total stars on any given clear night. But I watched some time lapse video’s from http://www.timescapes.org/ and his video “learning to Fly” so I did, and it’s amazing how fast stars move in 30 seconds…amazing stuff But after the sun comes up I have experience at that stuff, I was pretty happy at my night stuff.

Mount St. Helens

I got up really early, or did I get up really late? Either way my alarm was set for 1am. I guess we can go with got up late because the clerk at Plaid Pantry did say have a nice night. I arrived at Johnston Ridge Observatory at 3:30am and it was spooky. Mostly because their was another car in the parking lot but it also had something to do with my ear were ringing because it was so quite. Zero sounds, just a river a few miles down the way, a water spout that was dripping and a loose sign up on the hill that reminded people to stay on the trail. It was a horrible drive up, a lot of fog and a giant mysterious elk that was or was not in the road hidden by fog. I had my fingers crossed that the fog would die off or something, never would of guessed that 4000 feet up you would end up above clouds and fog for a clear shot at the mountain. I will go back and do this again, maybe just staying up and getting there earlier or just camping and doing it Louis and Clark style.
